John Woodhouse began painting after retiring from a career in library services. He is a member of the Nazareth Community based at St Martin-in-the-Fields and Faiths Together in Croydon, and the organiser of of Westminster Cathedral Interfaith Group. His work is shaped by a deep commitment to compassion and social responsibility.
Working primarily in oils on canvas, John’s paintings often respond to themes of care, hospitality and human dignity, particularly in relation to families undertaking journeys across the sea. His practice reflects a belief that art can bear witness and encourage empathy across communities.
His work has been exhibited at Farm Street Church, where pieces were auctioned in support of charitable causes, raising £5,000 for three organisations.
Through painting, John seeks to express solidarity, hope and the enduring value of compassion.
